New Rider Course
 
What are the requirements to take the course?
You will need to provide your own riding gear (above the ankle leather boots, DOT helmet, long pants, long-sleeved shirt or jacket, full-fingered gloves, & eye protection). You also need to know how to ride a bicycle & have a valid license to drive a car. Participants under the age of 18 must have parents permission to take the course.
Do I need to have a temporary
motorcycle license?

No, you don't need to have your temps because all portions of the course take place on our own private property. You will still need to take the written test at the DMV, but you can do so after you complete the course.
How many people are in the average course?
The course normally consists of 6-12 students and 1-2 instructors.
How long is the course & when is it offered?
The course is 25 hours long. It is normally spread over the course of 4 or 5 days. See exact schedules below. Our season runs from early April to early October.
What does the course cost?
The course cost is $350. With your paid enrollment, you will receive a $50 gift certificate from Doc's Harley-Davidson. You may also be eligible for a $50 reimbursement if you are a member of National H.O.G.®. Your insurance company MAY also offer you a discounted rate.
 
 
Do I need any prior motorcycle riding experience?
No, all skill levels are welcome to participate. The New Rider Course is designed for the beginner rider.
Will I get my license if I take the course?
Wisconsin residents: As long as you are present for all portions of the class & pass both of the tests, you will get a waiver that you can take to the Department of Motor Vehicles that will waive you from having to take a riding test. You still have to take the written test at the DMV before you can get your license.

Do I need to participate in all portions
of the class?

Yes, in order to pass the course, you MUST be present for all portions of the course & you must pass both of the skills tests.
Do I need to use my own bike for the course?
No, all students use 492cc Buell® Blast® motorcycles that we provide for the course.
Where does the course take place?
All portions of the course take place on-site at Doc's Harley-Davidson. We are located 18 miles West of Green Bay on Highway 29.
Is the course held rain or shine?
The course does not cancel due to cold or rain. We encourage you to dress in layers on range days. We will not run range exercises in snow, ice, or lighting.
How do I sign up for the course?
Contact us at 715-758-9080 or stop by to schedule for a course. A nonrefundable $100 downpayment is required to schedule. The remaining balance of $250 is due within 2 weeks of the course start date. Upon full payment, we will issue you a $50 gift certificate for Doc's Harley-Davidson.

Cancellation information: Any student cancellation within 7 days of the start date of class is nonrefundable, unless a substitute can be found to fill the open spot on our schedule before class begins.

Rider's Edge® Skilled Rider Course
 
What is the Skilled Rider Course?
Doc's Harley-Davidson is the first dealership in the state of Wisconsin to offer the Rider's Edge Skilled Rider Course. The Harley-Davidson Rider's Edge Skilled Rider Course is a motorcycle safety course that uses the proven curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) Experienced Rider Course, with some enhancements developed by Harley-Davidson enthusiasts. Participants use their own motorcycles to enhance the following skills; control at low speeds, risk management, limited space maneuvers, cornering judgment, stopping quickly in a curve, swerving and stopping quickly, multiple curve maneuvers, and surmounting objects.
 
     
 
When are the Courses Held?
The courses are between 6-8 hours long and are generally held over one day. Weekend courses are normally offered from 8am-4pm on Saturdays or Sundays. We also have a 2 day weekday schedule that takes place 2 week nights from 5pm-9pm.
 
     
 
Why should I participate in the Skilled Rider Course?
The skilled rider course is designed to help you to improve and build on your motorcycle riding skills in a closed environment. The lack of distractions and road hazards allows the rider to concentrate on fine tuning certain maneuvers that they may not otherwise on public roadways. It is a perfect way to take your riding skills to the next level, while having fun with other riding enthusiasts. Upon completion of the course, you will earn a Skilled Rider Course pin and patch set and a completion card from the MSF that may assist you in getting possible discounts on your insurance.
 
     
 
Where are the Skilled Rider Courses held?
All portions of the course are held on the range at Doc's Harley-Davidson of Shawano County. (18 miles west of Green Bay on Highway 29)
 
     
 
How much does the course cost?
The course cost is $125. If you are a national H.O.G.® member, you are eligible for a $50 reimbursement certificate. The certificate can be used in any Harley-Davidson® dealership for Harley-Davidson® merchandise, or is redeemable for H.O.G.® merchandise or membership dues. All H.O.G.® members are encouraged to participate in a riding course annually, and members are eligible for the $50 reimbursement on an annual basis.
 
     
 
What do I need to do to sign up?
You can register for the course by contacting us at 715-758-9080 or stop by during regular business hours. You will need to have the following;
* Valid motorcycle license or learner's permit
* Registered, street-ready motorcycle and proof of motorcycle insurance
* Proper riding gear (DOT approved helmet, full-fingered gloves, long-sleeved shirt or jacket, eye protection, above the ankle boots, and long pants)
